Litter detection and mapping

CamAlien, a high-speed camera system originally designed for detecting invasive plant species, can also be used for monitoring roadside litter.

Inspection

CamAlien

Mounted on a vehicle, the camera system scans the roadside while in motion, capturing images and identifying litter items along the way.

Until people stop polluting, someone will still need to collect the litter. CamAlien might not revolutionize litter collection, but it can help detect and map where the litter is, serving as a tool for prioritizing waste collection efforts.

Mapping

From detections
to a litter map.

The CamAlien system surveys the roadside, taking photographs and identifying litter items using AI — from discarded soda cans to scattered candy wrappers. From these detections, a map is created that pinpoints the areas where waste collection should be prioritized.
